It's 'World No Tobacco Day'. Fuming debates over the ill-effects of smoking on health are raging across the globe and the pictorial warnings on cigarette packets have been stretched to a tacky pixelated something.
But the association of writers with that sultry cigarette goes a long way back and equally long is the association between smokers and moochers. Here's a short film based on the legendary smoker (and writer), Saadat Hassan Manto's autobiographical essay, Muft noshon ki terah qismein (13 types of freeloaders) in which he tells us how people regularly bummed cigarettes off him during post war era. For as long as there will be smokers, there will be moochers.
