The lynching of 50-year-old Akhlaq in Dadri over rumours that he and his family consumed beef has caused much stir in the media, both in India and abroad. Major foreign publications including Washington Post, the New York Time and the BBC have covered the incident and questioned if India's secular and democratic credentials are under threat due to the presence of BJP at the centre trying to protect the religious sentiments of the majority.

Al Jazeera's digital wing recently held a panel discussion to talk about the issue. Watch the heated debate between four panelists — Sudhashu Trivedi, Muhammed Ali, Sandip Roy and Sunanda Vashisht — on Al Jazeera's popular show, the Stream.
