Not many know that he his also known for appearing in cameo roles in his own films and it is not rare for fans to spot him midway in the movie. The first time we saw the director acting in a film was in the 1969 romance drama 'Aradhna'. In the film he played the role of lead actor Rajesh Khanna's friend and was seen in a few scenes in the film. The film also starred actress Sharmila Tagore in the lead role.
The 1983 action drama film 'Hero' starred actors Jackie Shroff, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Shammi Kapoor in lead roles. Fans jumped to see the films director play a stranger on the road whom the lead couple zoom past on their way in the film.
In this action adventure film 'Khalnayak' (1993) starring actor Sanjay Dutt and Actress Madhuri Dixit, we can see director Subhash Ghai in a song featuring Madhuri Dixit where all he does is pick up a golden ring thrown by her as she sings and dances away.
