After treating a select audience to Sriram Raghavan’s relatively unseen and maiden feature about serial killer Raman Raghav, indie production house Drishyam Films are screening director Rajat Kapoor’s debut and unreleased venture, Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One this week. The screening is part of an initiative by the production house called The Masters, which aims to bring rare and never-seen-before films of India’s finest cinematic talents to cinephiles, followed by an interactive session with the filmmakers. The film stars Irrfan Khan (in his first role as a cop), Naseeruddin Shah, Ally Khan and Kashmira Shah, and was shot by Kapoor in 1997 after he had just graduated out of FTII. Other notable first-timers associated with the project are Oscar-winning Resul Pookutty in sound design and Reema Kagti’s first as an assistant director. Audiences are expected to be wowed by a few shots in the feature, one being of a sea-facing Bandra bungalow that now goes by the name of Mannat. It was six years later that Kapoor’s second project, the crowd-sourced Raghu Romeo, saw the light of day and his films have since been coming along in fits and starts. This initiative by the production house, though, will keep film buffs yearning for other such masterpieces that are yet to enthral us. www.drishyamfilms.com
