Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ kicked off its run at the box office with a decent start. The romantic comedy, directed by Luv Ranjan, made Rs 15.73 crore on its first day of release, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

He tweeted, “#TuJhoothiMainMakkaar does VERY WELL on Day 1… Got a boost due to #Holi festivities in several states, but lost out on substantial chunk of biz where #Holi was celebrated a day early [#Mumbai; working day]… Wed ₹ 15.73 cr. #India biz.”

Nonetheless, the film’s collection is low as compared to Rs 36 crore opening that Ranbir’s last hit, ‘Brahmastra’, saw on day one. However, at a time when the Hindi film industry is going through a rough patch, the first day box office collection is up to the mark.

As per Adarsh, the film got a much-needed boost thanks to the Holi holiday, but it lost business in territories where Holi is celebrated a day early. Interestingly, on the day 1 business, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ raked in 7.85 crore across national chains, which makes it to the second spot ahead of Kartik Aaryan's ‘Shehzada’ and Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi starrer ‘Selfiee.

On the work front, Ranbir was last seen in fantasy film ‘Brahmastra’, which ended its global run with more than Rs 400 crore.

‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ is helmed by Luv Ranjan, and also stars Dimple Kapadia and Boney Kapoor.
