Mukesh is in jail for almost two years convicted for murdering his wife.
In 2015, he was accused of killing his wife, in a case of dowry harassment when she mysteriously went missing. Soon, he was convicted of murder when an unidentified decomposed body of a woman was identified as his wife by her parents.

India Today reports that Pinki, Mukesh's 'dead' wife was found alive, living with her lover in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
"Family members of Manoj Sharma got a call from one of the acquaintances a few weeks back and he told them that he had seen Pinki staying with a man in the Cant area in Jabalpur. Immediate family members of Manoj went to Jabalpur and after identifying Pinki informed us." the report quoted Araiya Police Station Sub Inspecter Shatrughan sharma as saying.

Quoting Bihar police, the report says that Pinki had an affair with Mayur Malik before she was forced to marry Mukesh. Pinki and Mayur reportedly ran away in 2015 when Mukesh was convicted of her murder.
The Supreme Court had, in 2014, observed that the dowry law was being "used as weapons" by "disgruntled wives".
“The simplest way to harass is to get the husband and his relatives arrested,” the two-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad, in a 21-page order had said.
