'Wild And Unfounded Accusations'

Dubai, Sept 14 - The International Cricket Council today took the highlyunusual step of dismissing media speculation regarding the integrity of therecent triangular tournament in Zimbabwe between India, New Zealand and thehosts as totally 'inaccurate and without foundation'.

ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said in light of the wildly inaccuratemedia reports in the Indian media it was necessary to take this step to addressthe unfounded speculation.

"We do not normally comment on the operational activities of the ICCAnti-Corruption and Security Unit but in light of the volume of utterlyunfounded reports relating to the recent tri-series in Zimbabwe it is importantto make it clear that there is no investigation being undertaken into thisseries," said Speed.

"It is disappointing to see such wild and unfounded accusationscirculating in the media and we have taken the unusual step of commenting onthis speculation as we do not wish the reputation of the sport, the teams or theplayers to be tarnished by utterly inaccurate media reports."

The ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit frequently travels to all ICCFull Member countries and travel plans to visit many of these countries,including India, are already in place. No details of these travel plans arepublicly circulated and no comment will be made on the nature of the ICC ACSU'soperations in these member countries.
