Uttar Pradesh has decided to set up 25 courts for fast disposal of cases registered under the law to prevent atrocities against scheduled castes and tribes.

The courts will be set up under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Citing a source from the state government, The Economic Times reported that a proposal on the Rs 100 crore project will soon be sent to state's finance department seeking its consent.

The step will also lead to creation of 275 new posts in various departments at the new courts, which will be headed by additional district and sessions judges, the report adds.

This can also be seen as a step towards wooing dalit voters in the state keeping in eye the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

According to an India Today report, the party has prepared a special campaign named "Gareeb Utthan Karyakram" that shall continue from the party's founding day on April 6 to Dr Ambedkar's birth anniversary on April 14.
