On Saturday, a cash box with Rs 26.17 lakh was stolen from a ATM cash delivery van in Delhi.

The incident took place in Rajinder Nagar when the van's cash custodian, Jitender Singh had gone into the ATM kiosk with a security guard. The other staff, Mohd Nadeem and Gaurav, were waiting outside the cash van, leaving the rear door open and the trunk unlocked. Subsequently, three men stopped behind the van, entered the rear compartment and carried away the cash box on their bike, reported The Economic Times.

Both Nadeem and Gaurav told the police that they did not see the bikers as they were busy in a conversation. But Nadeem claimed he noticed the theft within minutes and raised an alarm. The CCTV footage is being checked by the police to identify the thieves, the report adds.

An investigation is underway to nab the culprits. The police are questioning staffers of the cash delivery company and has found that another driver working with the same cash delivery company had fled with cash worth Rs 22.5 crore from a van.

A few months ago, in  another incident, an ATM cash van carrying Rs 5 lakh was looted in east Delhi's Pandav Nagar area.

The incident occurred when the driver of the cash van had taken out the bags containing Rs 5 lakh. The money was to be put in an SBI ATM.

Three men arrived on a motorcycle and one of them got off, brandished a weapon and snatched the bags from the driver before fleeing from the spot.
