The BJP has said that it plans to contest 2018 Tripura elections alone and vowed to over throw the Left front government

Even as the fight between the BJP and the Left parties has reportedly turned bloody in some parts of Kerala, the saffron party is now eyeing another state ruled by the Left Front- Tripura.

The Indian Express quoted BJP state spokesperson Mrinal Kanti Deb expressing confidence in displacing the Left Front government.

The BJP has formed governments in two other north eastern states- Manipur and Assam.

Tripura is known as a major Left bastion where CPI(M) politburo member Mani Sarkar has been ruling the state as Chief Minister for the fourth consecutive term.

Earlier, reports had suggested that the BJP was likely to go for tie-ups with regional parties in Tripura and Meghalaya where assembly elections are due next year. The Congress is in power in Meghalaya.

According to the report in The Indian Express, the BJP strategy includes making the most of the discord within the largest tribal political party in the state, attempt to bring in members of rival parties and the promise of an autonomous Twipraland council to stem the demand for a separate state. A newcomer to Tripura politics, the entire state unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) joined the BJP earlier this month.
