When government pulled out high value currency from the market, the blowback faced by the people far exceed what the government strategists foresaw.

Baba Ramdev has an answer for why the government didn’t see it coming, including the havoc the policy wreaked on the wedding plans:  “Many in the BJP are bachelors...they didn't realise it was wedding season...that was the mistake,” he said.

The yoga guru is close to the BJP and had campaigned for the party in the run-up to the 2014 general elections.

With November and December being the ‘wedding season, the government on Thursday eased the burden on those about to get married in the upcoming season by allowing families planning weddings to withdraw Rs 2.5 lakh in a one-time-transaction.

Ramdev also tried to put a comical spin to the travails of those planning on getting hitched during this convergence of the demonetization and marriage season.

He said: “One good thing that has come out of all this...people cannot demand dowry.”

The demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 has hit people hard. The notes form about 85% of the total currency in circulation.

However, some are untouched by currency crunch. The wedding of Karnataka mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy’s daughter has cost a whopping Rs 500 crore, according to some reports.
