After Pakistan alleged that India was building a “secret nuclear city”, the latter rebuffed the claims, calling them a “figment of Pakistan’s imagination.”

According to a report by NDTV, Pakistan said that India was creating the said city to develop intercontinental missiles and for stockpiling nuclear material. In its response, India reportedly said that claims about an ‘imaginary city’ was the former’s way to divert attention from the fact that it has supported terrorist activity.

The report says that the comments were made by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Nafees Zakaria who did not divulge any further details.

"The so-called secret city appears to be a figment of the Pakistan (sic) imagination. India has always been in compliance with all its international obligations,” said a statement by the External Affairs ministry of India.

Pakistan’s claims come at a time when India is trying to get membership into the 48-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group. The 48 countries have control over trade in nuclear material and technology.

Earlier, China had opposed India’s entry into the group after it said that India had not signed on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that aims to control the international race for armaments. It argued that if India could gain access, so should Pakistan.
