Oil Spill Operations In Chennai Finally Come To A Close

A lot has been said and written about the major oil spill that stirred Chennai last month. It happened as a result of a collision between two cargo ships  off the Kamarajar Port in Ennore on January 28. The consequences of the disaster were deadly, casuing a threat to aquatic life, fishermen and human life in general.

Finally the clean-up operations are came to a close on Thursday, with clear seawater visible and no sign of any oil off the coast of Ennore, as reported by The Hindu

The oil spill that spread to the beaches of Chennai and led to depositing of black tar on the sands up to Vettuvankeni, was cleaned under the supervision of the Coast Guard by over 1,200 persons, including personnel drawn from the Highways Department, Rural Development, Revenue Department, Fire Services and various NGOs, reports The Hindu.
