Mattis, Parrikar Aim To Boost Indo-US Defence Ties

Following a phone call from the US Secretary of Defence James Mattis to his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrikar, India and US have agreed to maintain the pace and momentum of their partnership, reports India Today.

Officials said during the telephone conversation between the two, they discussed cooperation under the Defence Technology Trade Initiative (DTTI) and the Major Defence Partner status and agreed to take forward the joint development of defence platforms, as reported by The Hindu.

The Defence Ministry said Mr. Parrikar and Gen. Mattis laid emphasis on the top level priority placed by both countries on the relationship, and have resolved to work together to expand this partnership.

Former Defense Secretary Ashton Carter had earlier said that the defence relationship between the two nations is on the right track and they are mulling over ways to develop this partnership through technology sharing and co-production, as reported by the Economic Times.
