An Islamic State (IS) recruit from Kerala has been killed in an airstrike in Afghanistan according to a message received by his family members. Hafeesudeen TK, 24, was one of the 20 men who recently joined the IS.

The New Indian Express reported that Hafeesudeen’s mother got a message from one of the IS members, Afsaq Majeed informing her about the death of her son. Hafeesudeen was a native of Padna in Kasargod district in Kerala.

"We got the message today (Sunday) morning but we are not able to get in touch with them for more information," the newspaper quoted Hafeesudeen’s cousin. According to his cousin, Hafeesudeen’s body had been already buried.

As per reports, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has confirmed that the agency has been informed about the message received by the family.

The message from the IS member has not disclosed he location of Haffesudeen’s death. However, it is assumed that it could be Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, where the IS is trying to expand its insurgency. On Saturday, Afghan and US forces conducted a joint operation in Haska Mina district of Nangarhar and killed six IS leaders and 41 militants.

Kerala has been recently in news for IS recruits from the state.

Hafeedurahman, unlike the other IS recruits, had not taken his wife along as she had refused to join him. He used to be in touch with his family through frequent messages. He had even urged family and father to join him in the ‘Caliphate.’
