Hizbul Mujahideen's Local Module Behind Killing Of Umer Fayaz, Say Police

Jammu and Kashmir Police today said Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit was responsible for the killing and abduction of Lieutenant Umer Fayaz.

A senior police official said the police have identified three local Hizbul Mujahideen militants, who were part of the group that abducted and killed the young Army officer. The police said all the three militants are residents of Shopian and have been active in the area.    

Kashmir Police Chief SJM Gilani said Hizbul Mujahideen was  responsible for kidnapping and killing of the Lieutenant.

23-year-old Lieutenant was kidnapped on Tuesday from a marriage party and on Wednesday morning his body was found at Harmen area of Shopian.

The Army officer had qualified the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination in 2012 and had joined the NDA after passing his 12th class from Jawahar Navodya Vidyaliya in Anantnag in 2012.

Up to 5th class, Lieutenant Fayaz, was a student of Salafi High School,  Yaripora, Kulgam. He joined JNV Anantnag in August 2005. He had completed three years of training at Pune. Later, he spent one year at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was commissioned as Lieutenant on December 10, 2016. Fayaz is survived by his parents and two sisters. His father is having fruit business.
