Gujarat police officers will have earn by the sweat of their brow, said the GDP.

A notification from the state DGP has asked for the removal of ACs with immediate effect from police stations "located in both urban and rural areas.. police station in-charges (police inspectors/ police sub-inspectors)", reports The Times Of India.

According to the report, the notificaton justified the move by saying that it would prompt the station in-charges to patrol their areas to control crime, implying that the air conditioned police station might have been responsible for lethargy on part of the officers who avoid outdoor activities for the cool of the indoors.

The DGP's notification dated 27th March has ordered the removal of ACs within 10 days and has also asked for a report on the details of removed ACs with each police station's name, when it was installed, who got it installed and date of removal, the report further stated.

The notification will affect all 627 police stations in the state, all of which are not entitled to the luxury of air conditioning.

The notification reportedly read, "As the ranks are not entitled for AC offices, the use of equipment not only adds to the electricity bill of the police station but also prompts many station in-charges of not going out in their non-AC vehicles."
