Hitting a new high in its bid to ensure an alcohol-free Bihar, the Nitish Kumar’s government in the state has passed an amendment to its prohibition law which says that government officials cannot consume liquor anywhere, on home soil or abroad.

The liquor ban in the state was first enforced in the state ten months ago and according to an NDTV report, the new amendment to the law will seek to ensure that bureaucrats, judges and magistrates caught consuming liquor anywhere in the free world will be punished. It adds though that it is not quite clear how the government plans on imposing this directive.

Just last month, the government had organized the longest human chain in the world in support of the ban, with even its rivals, the BJP, joining in.

It could be an ingenious way to reach out to all the alcoholics and tell them to choose a better way of life. Maybe.
