BJP’s youth wing secretary has been arrested with illegal cash of Rs 20.55 lakh, including notes of Rs 2000, at Salem in Tamil Nadu.
J VR Arun, 36, has been actively campaigning for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his demonetisation drive, reported the Indian Express.
“For the progress of my country, I am ready to stand in the queue,” read a Facebook post of Arun.
Police told Express that he couldn’t explain the source of the money, so they deposited in the district treasury.
“The I-T Department is now probing the role of bank officials who sourced Rs 2000 currency notes,” said the officer.

Following the demonetisation of currency on November 8, the department has also stepped up its survey operations against real estate players, bullion traders and suspected hawala operatives to check the illegal use of the scrapped currency and subsequent generation of black money
BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan said Arun has been removed from organisational responsibilities.
