The principal of a prominent Delhi school has reportedly asked the students to tear off the two pages of an ‘environmental studies’ textbook for class 4 that described a weird experiment involving suffocating a cat to death.

In pictures shared by twitter user @Priya_Menon  on February 2, a textbook ‘Our Green world: Environmental Studies’ by PP Publications has an experiment for the students that involves killing a cat to differentiate between a living and non-living being.

"Take two wooden boxes. Make holes on lid of one box. Put a small kitten in each box. Close the boxes. After some time open the boxes. What do you see? The kitten inside the box without the holes has died.” the experiment says, teaching students how ‘living things breathe’ and the necessity of air for the same.

The matter has reportedly reached the Union Minister for Child And women development Maneka Gandhi, and the owner of PP Publications who has assured that the book will not be printed anymore.

Just recently, a class 12th sociology textbook in Maharashtra invited controversy over a chapter in the book titled ‘Major social problems in India’ which said “If a girl is ugly and handicapped, then it becomes very difficult for her to get married. To marry such girls, bridegroom and his family demand more dowry. Parents of such girls become helpless and pay dowry as per the demands of the bridegroom as family.

After being heavily criticized, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary And Higher Secondary education said that the matter will be looked into.
