Ever wondered to what use can photocopies of your identity and address proof be put to? 

According to a report published in The Hinduthe Mysuru city police have now stumbled upon inmates of Mysuru Central Prison making calls from SIM cards procured by misusing the photocopies of identity and address proof submitted by unsuspecting citizens for various purposes.

The report further says that during the investigation of a particular case registered by police in the city recently, the police found the accused individual receiving calls on their mobile number from jail inmates. An examination of the Call Detail Records (CDR) of the accused revealed that two jail inmates had been making calls from 12 different mobile numbers.

The police after procuring the applications submitted for the SIM cards visited the addresses mentioned in them following which the residents were shocked to learn that their identities were being misused in this manner. A few of them also said that the photographs submitted with the applications were not theirs.

In the light of this case, police officials said photocopies of identity and residence proof can also be misused when citizens hand it over to the shopkeeper and come back later to collect them. General public has been asked to be wary of all such possibilities.
