7200 Cartridges Missing From Police Camp In Kerala, Probe Ordered

As many as 7200 cartridges are reported missing from a Special Armed Police (SAP) camp in Peroorkada in Kerala. The report has come even as an investigation is underway into a similar case where 400 cartridges went missing from a camp of SAP trainees in Malappuram six months ago. The DGP has ordered a fresh probe in to the latest case.

Malayalam Manorama reported that the DGP has formed a four-member board led by State Industrial Security Force (SISF) commandant for investigating the matter. According to the report, the missing cartridges were used in 7.62 mm rifles.

Cartridges and other form of ammunition and weapons are supplied to the Police Chief Store in the state through ordnance factories under the Ministry of Defense, and the Central Weapon Stores (CWS) at Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. They are delivered in two types of boxes that can carry 600 and 400 cartridges respectively.

In the missing case in Malappuram, the trainees were given two boxes containing 600 cartridges in each. However, when they reached the firing range, only 400 cartridges were found in each of the boxes.
