Daily Letters | 29 Jul, 2009 10:09:53PM (IST) Ambitious she may be . But Obama kept a tight leash on her & did not allow her to go loose . Condolisa Rice was more high profile on world stage. As a matter of fact, Hillary is surprisingly low key. The Cilintons are known for their closeness to the Jewish lobby. But Obama did not alow her to meddle in his middle east policy which so far seems to have introduced a degree equivalence between the Palestinians & the Israelis.
Creation of a number of special envoys has also cut down on Hillay's authority.

Daily Letters | 29 Jul, 2009 05:36:55PM (IST) Biggest Mistake of Obama: Making Hillary Clinton the Secretary of State. In fact he shouldn't have included her in the team. She is more ambitious than Obama and will always want to be seen as the Secretary of State who left a mark on the world stage on her own and not as a team member working under Obama. For this she will do anything outlandish and outrageous. Mark my words. I am no tarrot card reader but this one will come true. The kind of campaign she ran against Obama was very, very attacking. It was a battle of attrition and when Obama eventually won the battle, he offered her the position of Secy of State for reasons which I guess could one of the following two. (1) Either he genuinely appreciated her qualities and thought that she would make a good Secy of State OR (2) Obama wanted to wear the halo of "Mahatma" who could forgive his adversaries so soon. If first assumption was the case then Obama certainly erred and if the second assumption is correct the Obama isn't as wise as he appears to be.

Daily Letters | 29 Jul, 2009 07:44:01AM (IST) Perhaps Mr Mehta has not seen the fawning coverage of the Congress party and its incompetent Prime Minister. The coverage of Mrs Clinton was at least temporary. We have to live with praising Mr Manmohan Singh everyday.

Daily Letters | 28 Jul, 2009 08:42:56AM (IST) ---"If we have to be sycophantic to somebody, it had best be the US, not those who kill us, like the Islamists. "
We dont need to be sycophants to anybody but Hindutvadis cannot help themselves.

Daily Letters | 28 Jul, 2009 01:27:48AM (IST) Since people like Mehta have made a cult of sickening sycophancy toward Islamism - covering up for the latter's innumerable crimes against India's heritage such as the almost complete destruction of large ancient Hindu temples in North India - who is he to complain about sycophancy to Americans?
At least the Americans are tolerant peoples among whom Hindus can live in peace and freedom and dignity, their religion having full rights to expression. Whereas among Muslims Hindus live a life of terror lest they be accused of criticising that bizarre Jewish-derived cult known as Islam.
If we have to be sycophantic to somebody, it had best be the US, not those who kill us, like the Islamists.

Daily Letters | 27 Jul, 2009 01:58:51PM (IST) Dear Mr. Mehta, For the first time I found myself in agreement with your opinions. I watched the interview of Mrs. Clinton by Bharkha Dutt. But could not watch more than few min, Barkha looked so head over heels that from her body language it appeared that she is obliged, as if it was great privilege to take interview of Mrs. Clinton sort of once in lifetime etc.Otherwise also due to the way NDTV conducts itself people call her now Burkha Dutt :). GOK when we will come out of the slave mentality due to McCauley effect.
