TN Assembly Speaker D. Jayakumar Resigns

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker D Jayakumar resigned from his post today amid speculation that his surprise decision was a fallout of rivalry in ruling AIADMK's city unit.

Jayakumar resigned from office with immediate effect, an official communique said, without assigning any reasons.

There was speculation whether his resignation had anything to do with rivalry within AIADMK with his supporters being accused of trying to corner Mayor S Duraisamy over the issue of efforts to remove the 'Anna Arch', a landmark here, as part of the Metro Rail project work.

His resignation also led to speculation of a cabinet reshuffle and his possible induction.

Jayakumar, a minister in the previous AIADMK government, is an Assembly member from Royapuram for the fourth term.

The resignation comes ahead of the two-day special sitting from October 29 to mark the Diamong Jubilee celebrations of the legislature.

Jayakumar became Speaker after AIADMK led by Jayalalithaa stormed back to power in Tamil Nadu in May last year unseating the DMK.

In TN politics today, the lady politician controls everything that any minister does, whether he breaths, laughs, is appointed or resigns. No man has any control over his own life or career.
