The Rape Report: Children, the Disabled Easy Victims
A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year-old mentally challenged woman living in his neighbourhood in a village, police said.
"The accused, Hasmukh Kurji, a father of two sons in the Tarai village of Jamjodhpur taluka, has been arrested and we will produce him in court today and seek his remand," Jamjodhpur Police Inspector A B Suthar told PTI.
The offence came to light last evening when the girl developed some complications and after being admitted to a hospital in the village, it came to the family's notice that she was six-months pregnant, police added.
Based on the girl's version of the incident, her father lodged a rape complaint last night following which, police nabbed Kurji, a videographer by profession, from his home, Suthar said.
The girl has been sent to the Jamnagar Civil Hospital for a detailed medical check-up, police said, adding that they were waiting for the report before proceeding with the investigation.
A 45-year-old practitioner of Unani medicine was arrested for allegedly raping his minor daughter for nearly a year in the metropolis, police said.
The accused, Mohammed Siddiqui, a resident of Vikhroli suburb in Mumbai, was arrested on Sunday night after his 15-year-old daughter informed about her ordeal to police.
The accused has nine children, including seven daughters. The victim is his third child.
In her statement, the girl alleged that her father raped her at least seven times for nearly one year, police said.
The accused had threatened his daughter and his bed-ridden wife with dire consequences if they informed about it to anybody, said inspector V Chavan of Vikhroli police station.
On Sunday afternoon, the victim mustered courage and informed her friend.
The friend's family members helped her and took her to the police station following which the accused was booked.
Siddiqui was arrested on charges of rape and criminal intimidation and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
He was produced before a local court yesterday which remanded him in police custody till 7 February.
Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh
A minor deaf and dumb girl was raped by her uncle today in a village here, police said.
Rishi Pal raped his 13-year-old niece at Murari Kheda Majra Jeyo village, they said.
As the mother of the girl came to know of the incident, Rishi Pal took out a country made weapon and threatened to kill her before fleeing from the spot.
On the complaint of the victim's father, a case has been registered and the girl sent for medical tests, police said.
A youth was arrested for attempting to rape a woman in the district, police said today.
The 21-year-old victim, a resident of Pushp Vatika colony in the Palwal area, was returning home from her duty yesterday evening.
When she alighted from her auto near Balabgarh-Sohna-T point, the accused Sunil held her by hands and tried to outrage her modesty, police said.
The accused who hails from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, fled away after the girl raised an alarm.
A case was registered and the accused has been arrested, police added.
An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a middle-aged man in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday at Dhepapentha village in Nuagaon area when the girl, a student of class-III, was playing in the school premises after her classes were over, they said.
The 45-year-old man, father of three daughters, allegedly took her to an isolated place and raped her, police said.
Later the girl told her mother about the incident following which she lodged a police complaint.
A girl was allegedly gangraped by three persons after offering her a drink laced with some intoxicant at Kashipur in Uttarakhand's Udhamsingh Nagar district.
The 20-year-old victim was invited by the son of her landlord to his birthday party where he and his two friends offered her a drink laced with some intoxicant, police said.
As she began to feel the effects of the drink, she returned to her room, they said.
Her landlord's son Prem, aged 23, and his two other relatives Rajendra Saini and Harish followed the girl and allegedly raped her, police said.
The girl lodged an FIR in this regard when she came back to her senses yesterday, they said.
Her medical examination had confirmed rape and the three had been arrested, police said.
The girl worked in a shoe factory, they said.
The principal of a private school at Subhash Nagar was arrested today for allegedly misbehaving with a girl student of his school, the police said.
Sharat Chandra, allegedly behaved indecently with a tenth standard girl student and reportedly forced her to kiss him, the police said, quoting a complaint lodged by her father.
Following the complaint, Jeedimetla police filed a case against the principal under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of women) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him, a police officer said.
Meanwhile, relatives of some girl students ransacked furniture at the school premises and tried to allegedly manhandle the principal.
They also demonstrated before the school alleging that the principal sexually harrassed some girl students.
Srivilliputhur, Tamil Nadu
A 36-year old man, father of two children, allegedly burnt to death a teenaged girl after rejected his proposal to marry him and attempted self-immolation at a village near here today, police said.
Kulandaivelu of Padikasu Vaithan Patti was madly in love with the 17-year old school going girl and pestered her to marry him. He had followed her daily when she was on way to school, though she had warned him.
Angered over her rejection, he allegedly took her forcibly into his house, poured kerosene over her and set her ablaze, police said.
Later he had set himself on fire and suffered 80 per cent burns. Kulandaivelu had been admitted to the hospital in a serious condition.
