A 32-year-old history-sheeter has been arrested for the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl here last month when he was out on parole, police said today.
Sunil alias Pappu Salve was apprehended by Shirdi police from near Manmad railway station, about 80km from here in North Maharashtra, last night.
Salve had several criminal cases, including those of kidnapping, rape and murder, lodged against him in various police station of Nashik district. He had been serving ten- year rigorous imprisonment after conviction in one of the criminal cases.
He was released from jail on parole and during this period, he kidnapped a nine-year-old girl from here in Western Maharashtra, and allegedly raped and murdered her on December 28, 2012, they said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sunita Thakare told PTI that the rape and murder case against Salve will be tried by a fast-track court.
