Ahead of being sworn in as India's 14th prime minister, Narendra Modi today visited Raj Ghat and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

Modi spent around 10 minutes at Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

A number of Delhi BJP leaders including Harsh Vardhan, Vijay Goel and Vijender Gupta were present with him.

Modi, who led the BJP to an astounding victory in the Lok Sabha polls, will be sworn in as prime minister this evening in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan at a grand function to be attended by foreign dignitaries, including SAARC leaders.

President Pranab Mukherjee will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Modi and his Council of Ministers in the presence of a host of leaders, including outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi, besides leaders of various other parties and chief ministers of a number of states.

After his visit to Raj Ghat, Modi tweeted, "On my way to Atalji's residence to seek his blessings."

Modi met former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee at his residence here and sought his blessings.

Glad that Modi did not start speaking to the audience.

In the memorable words in Casablanca .... is this the start of a beautiful relationship. Honor the past .... even as one looks at building a future.

I read a very good difference between Mahatma Gandhi and Narendra Modi.  Mahatma would say, if somebody spit near your house, wipe that spit out yourself.  Modi would say, if somebody spit near your house, you wipe that spit out yourself-with his pants after snatching out his pants.

I am waiting for Guha to whine about how Modi did not visit Nehru and thus insulting a great tradition.

Nice picture.

With that potential to attract more into his party, he is likely to hijack the Congress.
