BJP Slams Jairam Ramesh for Temple, Toilet Remarks
send via whatsapp
BJP today hit out at Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh for his comment that there are more temples in the country than toilets, and that toilets are even more important for the country than temples, saying he should not make such statements which hurt the "fine fabric of faith and religion" in the country.

"Making of toilets and having faith in a religious place of worship are two different things. India is a multicultural country where we should have unblemished faith in a temple, a mosque, a gurudwara or a church. You cannot juxtapose the two," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

He alleged Ramesh has made a political statement here and advised him to instead concentrate "salvaging the battered image of the UPA government".

BJP maintained that one should not get into the debate of what- a temple or a toilet- is more important.

"While (public) toilets, which have to be built by the administration, are necessary, religion is important as people have faith in it. It would be good for Mr Ramesh that out of his exuberance he stops making such comments which will destroy the fine fabric of religion and faith," Rudy said.

If  Jairam Ramesh had used the word MOSQUE/CHURCH instead of TEMPLE in his remarks ,reputation of Ramesh would have surpassed even MODI's, and carried him all over India in a GOLDEN CHARIOT  YATRA.

Jairam Ramesh could have told the same thing, without bringing the temples in his statement. Now,see the fun. People have forgotten the toilets and talking about the temples.

If this minister is afflicted with terminal cancer and without any hopes of it being treated,he has to turn to god and temples(only in india} to withstant the onslought of the decease.Mr.minister please be a little more considerate to age old temples and relegion of this ancient country.further if u consider temples in comparison with toilets please clean them and make it attractive, people (hindus) will be thankful to u

The stupidity of his comment shows that a person who should be tending a public TOILET, or be engaged in some similar  occuption, is unfortunately a  Minister in the central government..

toilets are even more important for the country than temples >>> In the interest of secularism,  Jairam Ramesh should have said "temples, Mosques, Churches, Gurudwars".

Why single out Hindus - or is it that Muslims and Christians in India have proper toilets (provided by 50+ years of Congress rule) and only Hindus don't have proper sanitation?
