Within a time span of 12 hours, the Australian Open lost both defending champions, Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka, knocked out by Stanislas Wawrinka and Agnieszka Radwanska on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Four-time Australian Open Champion Djokovic, the winner of the past consecutive three years, lost out on his bid for the fifth win in a five-set quarterfinal loss to Wawrinka, thus making way for a new champion. Wawrinka defeated the ex-champion in a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7 win on Tuesday.
The match lasted for four hours and had some stunning moments. Both players reportedly showed amazement at some of the shots during the game.
Wawrinka was applauded by Djokovic, who said that he was deserving of the win, according to reports.
Today morning, Women's defending champion Victoria Azarenka was taken out of the league by Agnieszka Radwanska in a three-set match.
Radwanska, who had lost to Azarenka during the semi finals last year, managed to dethrone her this time.
The women's title is now open and prepared to crown a new champion, while the men's league still has former champions Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the game.
