Ananthamurthy Given Security, Says Nowhere Else to Go
send via whatsapp

Renowned Kannada writer and Jnanpith awardee U R Ananthamurthy has been given police protection following "threat perception" over his remark that he would leave the country if Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister.

"Security was deployed at Ananthamurthy's residence after an oral request by him in the wake of a "threat perception" over his remark," Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Kamal Pant said.

A group called NaMo Brigade had sent a travel itinerary to the writer to Karachi for May 17, soon after exit Lok Sabha poll results were announced.

The writer, however, changed his stand later and said he was emotionally overwhelmed while making the statement.

"It was too much to say because I can't go anywhere except India," Ananthamurthy had said.

"This time I think Modi was so attractive to the young who desired a strong nation like a growing China, America or any other country.

"There is something of national spirit and that I think brought him to power. But basically I am a critic of nationalism because quite a few lies can spread on the basis of nationalism," he told reporters here.

Ananthamurthy said he wanted a supple nation, instead of a strong nation, because the later can break like Germany and Japan.

"I don't want a strong nation. I want a supple nation. A strong nation can break. We know what has happened to Germany," he said.

What, the NaMo brigade sent him an itinerary bomb? Those dreaded hindu terrorists......

Btw, when this eminent writer made his threat to decamp a while back, many people (Modi supporters presumably but probably not all) sent him money to help with the sojourn. Expectedly, Mr Ananthamurthy dubbed them all facists. Life isn't fair, isn;t it Mr. Murthy?

The fake outrage of the succus over this guy reveals what touch-me-nots they really are.

The guy was not threatened. He was simply ridiculed for his outlandish statement. Sending a travel iterinary was a creative way of ridiculing him. Nothing more.

And these guys think as though the Gestapo is on them.

Just think of the abuses you have made on Modi and his supporters. We are just making fun.

Yes ... I would like to know what a "supple nation" is? Are there any examples presently of supple nations or near-supple nations?

BTW, Mr. URA, I would (and I am sure plenty of Indians) would be happy to exchanges places with the Germany and Japan of today.

I am convinced that most Desi elite would most like the status quo to stay. Because it is what ensures them their elite status remains. Curiously, even those that join the elite from the non-elite, end up with this mindset as soon as they turn elite.

Any Hindu who marries a Christian or a Muslim immediately develops that inferiority complex grandoisely called secularism.Whether it is Anantha Murhy or N.Ram or Teesta Setalvad the story is same.
