SAD president Sukhbhir Singh Badal today termed as "non-performer" Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh, who in turn accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of reducing the ruling party to a "family owned profit making company."

The district has witnessed an era of development during the SAD-BJP regime, Sukbhir said while campaigning in favour of Akali candidate Joginder Pal Jain for the February 23 Moga assembly bye-election.

The previous Congress government led by Amarinder had completely ignored the progress of Moga and he cannot point a single initiative taken by him for the district, he said.

It is up to people of Moga to decide whether they want to vote for development or non-performance, Sukhbir said.

The Deputy Chief Minister further said the defeat in Moga by-poll will end the political career of Amarinder as the party has already faced humiliating defeat in assembly polls.

Meanwhile, Amarinder while addressing another public meeting alleged that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has turned SAD into a "closely held private limited company."

It was no longer the same Akali Dal which had participated in the freedom and other struggles and whose leaders had sacrificed everything for the national cause, he said.

"Now Badal is running the party as a private and family owned profit making company with all his family members as its directors with huge financial stakes", Amarinder said adding, Badal does not like any one who tries to challenge the supremacy of his family.

"Badal can never look beyond himself and his family," Amarinder said adding, he turned Akali Dal into a profit making company.

Addressing a series of public meetings in support of the party candidate Vijay Sathi, he accused Badal of being "power hungry."

He said Badal started his political career in 1957 from Malout as a Congress MLA and later resigned from the party in 1960 on the instructions of Akali Dal.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress accused the SAD of misusing the government machinery and intimidating the party workers.

The party has written to Election Commission giving details of "various violations" being committed by the Akali Dal particularly by its ministers and the Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, state Congress Rana Gurjeet Singh said.

Akali ministers were moving around with all the security paraphernalia in a clear attempt to intimidate the voters, he said.

Some of SAD leaders were also using beacon lights and hooters on their vehicles, Rana added.
