Ahmedabad: Radical Left Parties to Rally Against Modi

A combination of radical Left organisations in their joint rally to be held here tomorrow will appeal to voters to "dislodge" Narednra Modi government from power in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections.

"On the day commemorating Russian Revolution we have decided to organise a massive rally in the city with the aim to spread voters awareness to defeat BJP in the state," said convener of Democratic People's Forum (DPF), an umbrella body of the radical Left parties, and CPI-ML general secretary K N Ramchandran.

"For quite a long time, Gujarat and especially Ahmedabad, has not seen Red Flags. We will show workers' strength," he said, adding the rally will culminate in a public meeting at J P Chowk here.

However, Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM), which is also part of the DPF, said spreading Left ideology is more important for them than which party wins the Assembly elections.

"Our goal is not to win certain number of seats or the election. Our aim is to spread our ideology. It is irrelevant for us that which of the parties BJP, Congress and Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) wins the polls," said JSM convener and human rights activist Mukul Sinha.

He, however, informed that DPF will be fielding candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections but refused to elaborate.

In our view, no political party has embarked on the election campaign focusing the issues concerning the common people, he said.

Workers from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and West Bengal, besides Gujarat, are taking part in the rally, Sinha said, adding the CPI-ML, Democratic Party of India, Bahujan Vaam Manch and Marxist-Leninist Committee (Andhra Pradesh) have also informed about their consent to participate in the rally.
