After VHP, Muslim Group Objects to Osama Film Shoot
send via whatsapp
After VHP, a Muslim outfit today protested the shooting of Kathryn Bigelow's film on Osama bin Laden here on the killing of the al Qaeda leader in Abbottabad (Pakistan) here alleging it will disturb the peaceful atmosphere between the communities in a secular country.

"We express our great concern over the shooting of Zero Dark Thirty or ZD 30. This picture will create more differences between Muslims and other communities. It will provoke other communities and law and order will be badly affected and the peaceful atmosphere of the region disturbed," Jamiat-e-Ulema Hind's North India General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Qasmi said in a memorandum submitted to the Chandigarh's Deputy Commissioner.

Later talking to PTI, Qasmi said "we are Muslims living in a secular country where such type of activities (film shooting) should not have been allowed by the administration in the first place. We demand that the shooting of this film should be stopped forthwith".

He alleged an attempt was being made through this film to portray the Muslim community in bad light.

"If they have to shoot this film, they should go to Pakistan and not shoot it in India as here we apprehend the peaceful atmosphere will be disturbed. The film will portray Muslims as terrorists, which is wrong," he alleged.

Earlier today, a group of traders in Sector 26's grain market, where the film's shooting was going on, also lodged their protest against the movie.

"It is badly affecting our business. The entire area has been sealed and customers cannot reach our shops," a trader based in the grain market said.

Yesterday, the film crew was forced to cancel the shoot and move the cameras away after the protests when a few scenes of the film were being recreated to show areas in Pakistan by the Oscar-winning director at Manimajra town on the outskirts of the city.

Activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) led by Vijay Singh Bhardwaj had disrupted the shooting and removed the sign boards in Urdu put up on a few shops.

They had also raised slogans against Pakistan and removed its flags put in place to recreate the spot in Abbottabad where US commandos killed the Osama on May 2, 2011.

Bigelow had later said no Pakistani flag will be put in place at the shooting areas.

The film's crew has been shooting this week in prominent markets here and at the Punjab Engineering College here and at Patiala changing local shop boards to Urdu, showing auto-rickshaws with Lahore number plates, burqa-clad women and men in salwar-kameez, chappals and skullcaps.

Both these  protests against this film-shooting are illogical and unsustainable. After all, how does the showing of  Pakistani flags in a film set in India become  objectionable? These VHP people have indulged in  school boy arguments when they came protesting. As if this juvenile act is not enough, Muslims began their protests saying that the film intends to show them (Muslims) in a bad light ! How on earth are   such  arguments justfied !?  This is competitive communal madness !!

Sounds like a very good idea that Modi must heed to. If he lets them shoot the film in Gujarat, in a matter of one night, he will become the poster boy of jokers like you!!

Reply to Irreverent India,

Very Good Suggestion, You could also have recommended a most secular place in India like Gujarat, where Hindutva's OBL has been in power for more than a decade.

As Hollywood is being run by Zionists, it mayn't portray the real facts contributed to the creation of OBL and the Al Qaida terrorist outfit. Using the pretext they created, they will just demonize Muslims.

Who doesn't know that occupation of Arab/Muslim lands(Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan etc) is the cause of global tension and terrorism. Stop Zionist terrorism (invasions, stealing natural resources, enslaving and genocides) to put an end to all other terrorisms.

Zionism is a great threat to the world peace.

So what good did Osama do? I have been asking this question for 11 years and more incidents like this makes me more certain that Osama Bin Laden has become a figure of hate than a polarising figure. what good he did for his own people. More Muslims are killed and face persecution than anyone else. But how Osama changed the world though unintentionaly is never mentioned.

Why did the team have to choose Chandigarh for the shootings? They could have chosen a more secular place like Srinagar or Azamgarh!!
