Rs 19.5 lakh was today distributed among 130 terror-affected families in Jammu and Kashmir at a function organised here by the Hind Samachar Group of newspapers.
BJP President Nitin Gadkari, who was the chief guest at the function, lauded the efforts of the group to extend help to such families under its Shaheed Parivar Fund.
Hind Samachar Group Chief Editor Vijay Kumar Chopra said the fund was initiated by the group in 1983 by Ramesh Chander, who was killed by terrorists in 1984.
So far, Rs 11.5 crore has been distributed among the terror-affected families, he said, adding Rs 57 lakh collected for Bihar flood victims under the Chief Minister's Relief Fund was presented to Divesh Chander Thakur, a minister in that state.
Rs 2 crore was given for flood relief to the Bihar chief minister last year, he said.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chairman of All India Anti-Terrorist Front M S Bitta and newly-appointed BJP Secretaries Navjot Singh Sidhu and Smriti Irani were among those who attended the function.
