Reports of Rape, Harassment From Across India

The cases of rape, molestation and forced prostitution  seem to be on the rise not only in the capital but also in other parts of the country alike. While a 4-year-old was molested in a school bus by its conductor in Mumbai, five women were rescued from G.B. Road of New delhi who had been forced into prostitution.

Vikaspuri, G.B. Road in Delhi

A senior official of Central Water Commission was arrested here after his domestic help alleged that he was raping her for the past one year, police said today.

A case was registered in the Vikaspuri police station last night and the official was apprehended.

The maid, who is from Jabalpur, alleged that she was being sexually assaulted by the official for the past one year.

She approached police yesterday following which the case was registered.

In another incident in the city, five women, allegedly forced into prostitution, were rescued from the G B Road area here and two people arrested in this connection.

The women were rescued yesterday, with the help of an NGO Rescue Foundation, police said today.

Working on specific inputs, a team led by ACP Ram Kumar of Kamla Market police station along with the representatives of the NGO, conducted a raid and rescued the girls, they said.

One Kamal and Lalita were arrested in this regard, police said.

"During investigation, it was revealed that the rescued women are residents of West Bengal and Karnatka. They belong to poor families and were lured to Delhi on the pretext of providing them good employment and were subsequently forced into flesh trade," Additional Commissioner of Police (Central District), Devesh Chandra Srivastva said.

"They told police that they want to go back to their places and live a normal and decent life. All rescued women are majors," Srivastva informed.

Further investigation in to the matter is in progress, he said.

Aurangabad, Nagpur, Mumbai in Maharashtra

A 19-year-old youth was arrested, in Aurangabad, for allegedly raping a minor girl for over a year on the pretext of marriage, police said today.

"The accused Vijay Veer lured the girl from Dhangarwadi village to have physical relation with him under the pretext of marrying her," said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sandeep Jadhav.

Jadhav said that the accused was arrested yesterday after the girl lodged a complaint against him after he refused to marry her.

Vijay has been booked under section 376 (punishment for rape) of IPC and Atrocity Act, the SDPO added.

In a separate incident in Nagpur, an 18-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by a group of dacoits at a village near here, police said today.

A gang of 5-6 dacoits, in the age group of 25 to 30 years, struck at the huts in Nawargaon village under Kuhi taluka in Nagpur rural last night between 8 and 10 PM.

They beat up the inhabitants and later criminally assaulted the girl, SP, Nagpur Rural, Manoj Sharma told PTI.

The alleged dacoits seem to be from Pardhi community and a hunt has been launched to trace them, the SP said.

They had earlier also made dacoity attempts in nearby villages, he said.

In yet another incident, a 4-year-old girl was allegedly molested by the conductor of her school bus here but, in an apparent goof up, a case of rape was registered against him, a senior police officer said toady.

Bus conductor Ramesh Rajput (35) allegedly molested the girl in suburban Juhu on Tuesday afternoon when children were being dropped back home, city Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said.

Being the last to be dropped home, the KG student was the lone child in the school bus when she was sexually abused by the conductor in the presence of a female attendant, who confronted him for the indecent act, police said.

The case came to light on Wednesday when the victim informed her father about the incident and he reported the matter to the school authorities immediately.

"There was no rape or attempt to rape. We are rectifying our mistake," Singh told PTI.

"Section 376 IPC (rape) was applied in this case by mistake and we are contemplating to remove it with the permission of the court," Mumbai police spokesperson Ambadas Pote said.

A case was registered against Rajput after medical check up of the victim. The accused was arrested and charged with rape and molestation under Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act.

The bus driver's statement has also been recorded, police said.
