I agree with you. Obama's style is to lay out his positions. Answering a litany of well prepared and well rehearsed lies is not what he was ready for. The next day he did say:
"When I got on to the stage, I met this spirited fellow who claimed to be Mitt Romney. But it couldn't have been Mitt Romney, because the real Mitt Romney has been running around the country the last year promising 5 trillion dollars in tax cuts that favor the wealthy. The fellow on stage said he didn't know anything about that! Governor Romney may dance around his positions but if you want to be president, you owe the American people the truth."
"As by Barbara Morrill said, Mitt Romney lied through his teeth for most of the debate.."
And the greatest orator since Cicero could not puncture EVEN ONE of Romney's lies effectively!! I guess that is because of altitude or global warming or India crashing out the T20 world cup.
Anwaar ... must say I actually watched the debate because I like Obama talking. But he was very insipid. Very disappointing performance and uncharacteristic as far I can tell. And Romney came across as unexpectedly good.
Why did he not take on Romney's lies as you mention :-). May be he shouldn't have picked his anniversary day for the debate :-). Has he just lost steam with 4 years of probably the most stressful job around? He seemed like he didn't want to be there.
>> "As by Barbara Morrill said, Mitt Romney lied through his teeth for most of the debate..... blah ... blah..." - Anwaar
As if Obama was Raja Harishchandra personified!!
One can understand that you support Obama. But, such gracelessness when Obama gets battered in the debate!?!!
As by Barbara Morrill said, Mitt Romney lied through his teeth for most of the debate. He lied when he claimed that "pre-existing conditions are covered under my plan." They're not. When he said that President Obama had "cut Medicare by $716 billion to pay for Obamacare." Obama didn't. When he denied proposing a $5 trillion tax cut. He did. When he said President Obama had "added almost as much to the federal debt as all the prior presidents combined." Not even close. When he resurrected "death panels." That was called "one of the biggest whoppers of the night." When he stated that half the green energy companies given stimulus funds had failed. Only if three out of nearly three dozen is half.
