The Praja Rajyam Party today welcomed the recommendations of the Justice Srikrishna Committee on the Telangana statehood issue.
In a statement issued here, the party expressed happiness that its views and suggestions on the issue were reflected in the committee report.
The Political Advisory Committee of PRP, which met here today under the chairmanship of party president K Chiranjeevi, decided to study the committee's report in detail and firm up its views.
The Srikrishna Committee in its report, released yesterday, recommended six options on Telangana statehood demand, including keeping the state united with constitutional and statutory measures for empowerment of Telangana region, and also bifurcation of the state with Telangana and one or the other regions with it.
The PRP has been a votary of unified Andhra Pradesh and has always maintained that the state would progress only if it remained united.
Meanwhile, the PRP condemned the attack on its Balkonda MLA E Anil by Telangana separatists here yesterday.
Chiranjeevi called Anil over phone and condemned the incident, party sources said.
Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu also spoke to Anil on the phone and denounced the attack, they said.
Incidentally, Anil has been a supporter of a separate Telangana as he hailed from the region. He, along with another PRP MLA from Telangana A Maheshwar Reddy, was maintaining a strained relationship with the party ever since it supported a unified state.
