A worker was killed and two others were injured in a mishap at SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant in Durg district today, police said.
"The accident took place when an iron beam, being lifted by a crane in the under-construction coke oven battery 11, collapsed late evening. One worker standing on the ground was killed, and three others injured," Superintendent of Police O P Pal told PTI over phone.
The injured were taken to Sector-9 hospital in Bhilai, where the condition of one of them was reported to be critical, Pal said.
Santosh Singh was killed in the accident while Krishna Dewangan, Panna Bhusan Tiwari and Harmeet Singh were injured.
These were contract workers, working on construction of the coke oven battery. BSP management has ordered an inquiry.
BSP, a unit of the state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), is located in Durg district, some 30 km from here.
