Mamata Takes Stock of Progress of Govt Depts
Ahead of completion of one year in office next month, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today reviewed the work of all departments and directed ministers to ensure that projects reached targeted beneficiaries.

"It is a routine meeting held in every three months to take stock of the progress of work of different projects and which were facing difficulties because our financial condition is bad," the chief minister said stating she did not know whether this was done by the earlier Left Front government.

The meeting made a detailed assessment and tried to identify the reasons behind some departments lagging behind in performance, she told reporters.

"The achievement of some departments was very good despite paucity of funds," she said.

Noting that that progress of the work in Junglemahal and Darjeeling was also reviewed, she said, "I have already visited 19 districts to [take] stock of the work of development projects."

She said her government has rolled out e-governance initiatives in various departments to promote transparency.

The chief minister emphasised asset creation, especially in social infrastructure like schools, besides stressing the need for spending on social welfare schemes.

She laid emphasis on Backward Area Development projects funded by the Centre and the development of the minorities for whom she has recently announced a number of sops.

Sources said that she had advised ministers to ensure that the budget allocated to their departments showed tangible results.
