Democrats Call Romney Privileged, Out-of-Touch
With Barack Obama and Mitt Romney running neck and neck in opinion polls, Democrats have launched a blistering attack on the US President's Republican rival calling him privileged and out-of-touch, as they opened their national convention here seeking re-election for the incumbent.

On the first day of the three-day convention here last night, speaker after speaker lashed out at Romney for several hours -- from his policies to his personal bank accounts and his record as the governor of Massachusetts.

Star speaker, First Lady Michelle Obama, however, did not mention Romney by name and sought re-election of her husband, asking people to stand together for the man they can trust to keep moving this country forward. "My husband, our President Barack Obama is that man," she said.

Democrats have gone on record to say that this is going to be a close election. According to a new survey by CNN/ORC International, both Obama and Romney are tied at 48 per cent.

At the convention, Romney was accused of trying to take America backward and described as elite, privileged and out-of touch, while Democratic leaders argued that a re-election of Obama would take the country forward.

Romney and his Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan now say "they want to take America back. And so we ask: Back to what? Back to the failed policies that drove us into a deep recession? Back to the days of record job losses? Back to the days when insurance companies called being a woman a 'pre-existing condition'?" asked Martin O'Malley, Governor of Maryland.

Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, said the American people are still asking, who is Mitt Romney?

"But the American people know Barack Obama. He is the leader who says we should, we can, we will. He is the leader who doesn't search for the easy path for himself, but takes the right one for us," he said.
