Delhi Gang-Rape: Protests Continue in U'khand

Demanding severe and prompt punishment for culprits involved in the brutal gang rape of 23-year-old girl in New Delhi, people from the small towns of Garhwal region today took to the streets for the second consecutive day.

The victim, who hails from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, studied at an institute in Uttarakhand before moving to Delhi for her internship.

Protesters held candlelight march and demonstrations demanding severe and prompt punishment for the accused involved in the case.

Sumangala Mahasangha, a federation of rural women, demanded that fast track courts should be established in every district for prompt delivery of justice to victim.

"If such incidents have to be stopped, immediate action by authorities is required even in minor complaints of women harassment," Ganga Devi Coordinator of Mahasangha said.
