Chasnala Tragedy: Imprisonment for 2 Ex-IISCO Officials
A local court today awarded one-year imprisonment to two former Indian Iron and Steel Company (IISCO) officials in connection with a coal mine disaster in Dhanbad’s Chasnala colliery 37 years ago.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dhanbad, Y K Singh, passed the order against R. Bhattacharya, the then manager of IISO, and its former Project Officer Deepak Sarkar sentencing them to one year in prison.

On December 27, 1975, 375 miners had been working when water entered the underground mine at Chasnala colliery leading to the watery grave of many.

Two other former officials, who were accused in the case, died long ago.
