Bibhudendra Mishra Cremated With State Honour
The body of freedom fighter and former union law minister in Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet, Bibhudendra Mishra, was cremated today with full state honour at Khannagar crematorium here.

Twenty-one gun salutes were given by the Odisha police as a mark of respect to Mishra (93) before his son Manevendra Mishra lit the funeral pyre in presence of a large number of supporters.

Mishra, who was law minister in Jawaharlal Nehru's second cabinet, died at a private hospital here due to old age related ailments yesterday.

An associate of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Mishra had participated in the 1942 Quit India Movement and was jailed.

The leader's body was first taken to Ravenshaw University here where he along with former Odisha chief minister Nilamani Routray had removed Union Jack and unfurled the tricolour in 1939.

Mishra, an eminent lawyer and writer, was the president of High Court Bar Association and also remained editor of at least two Odia dailies.

The body was then taken to Orissa High Court, 'Swaraj Ashram' and Netaji's birth place at Odia Bazar in the city.

Chief Justice V Gopal Gowda and other judges of Odisha High Court and other lawyers and freedom fighters laid wreath on the body at Revenshaw University and Swaraj Ashram.

Born at Kundheibenta Sahi in Puri on November 30, 1928, Mishra is survived by a son and a daughter. His wife Uma Devi had predeceased him in 2000.
