Amid widespread criticism, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed his displeasure to Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde over the delay in informing Afzal Guru's family about his hanging.
Singh told Shinde that Guru's family should have been informed in advance about the execution carried out last Saturday morning at Tihar Jail here for his role in 2001 Parliament attack case, sources said.
The Prime Minister conveyed his displeasure to the Home Minister on the sidelines of the Governors' Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday, they said.
The sources said the Prime Minister told Shinde that it was alright to be tough on terror but the delay in informing Guru's family was not how "state craft" is conducted.
The government had sent a letter through speed post, despatched Friday last, to Guru's family in Sopore in Kashmir and it reached them only on Monday, about 51 hours after the execution.
Singh took exception to the decision to inform the family by post, the sources said.
Guru's family has been angry over not being informed in advance about the hanging as they came to know only through the media after the execution was carried out.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also strongly criticised the decision to inform the family through post in this age.
Poor PM last time he became so upset and suffered many sleepless nights when Safeel,Haneef ,Kafeel linked to Glasgo Terror attack were arrested in foriegn lands .
"PM Upset Over Delay in Informing Family"
Nation upset over delay in the reaction from the PM.
It has taken Maun Moan Singh one week to formulate his response to the widespread criticism of his government's botch up. If he had been PM in 1971, the war would have been half over before he would have realised hostilities had commenced. When will we hear from the Oracle of Janpath or the voice of the future?
The problem is that he is presiding over a government in which no one listens to him and each one goes his own way.
And finally, why is this report filed from Islamabad if MMS is in Delhi?
This is just a damage control, the government does not know where to hide its murderous act. Take a look back to Kasab's hanging just a few days ago where there was no ambiguity on Kasab's involvement. On that occassion all the norms of a civilized state were meticulously adhered to, but not here.
Why? What is the state afraid of now even to hand over the body's remnants? This is where Teesta scores !
Had the family been informed in time, they could have met him and also claimed the mortal remains for performance of religious last rites. Amends can still be made.
