Defense minister was in a shock - for 2 minutes - on hearing of the bribe offer. General refused to take action. So Anthony forgot about the whole thing. Anthony would take action even on anonymous complaints, but only on a written complaint.

Andher Nagri, Chopat Raja.

Sir, Your house is on fire, your family trapped inside must be rescued.

Anthony Sir : First things first. Put it in writing, and submit the complaint in triplicate.

He did not gav eyou inwriting so neither you asked him to give nor you took up the case further.

Sir Antghony sahib  C in C had reported you that he had been offered a bribe of Rs 14 crores and you did not act at all ! You just waited for a letter as if General was asking two days leave but not granted since not applied in writing and no action taken !!!

Boss we still consider you an honest Politician but this does not gell .

General Singh did exactly what was expected of him.  Anthony is guilty of extreme negligence. This thing about "not in writing' is a silly excuse to save his skin!  He should resign immediately.

A.K.Antony was found to be the most inefficient chief minister Kerala ever had.Yet,Sonia Gandhi chooses him for a vital ministry like the defence, for reasons best known to her.It is surprising that the minister never asked the army chief over such a long period as to what happened in the matter that was orally brought to him.

""But he told me I do not not want to pursue it. I don't know why he did not not want to pursue it at that time," he said."

What sort of answer is this? Who is the Boss here? Did he ask why he did not want it to be pursued? And if he refused to state the reason, what prevented Anthony to take action?

Anthony says there was no written complaint. Did he demand a written complaint? And after his demand, did the Army Chief refuse to give the complaint in writing? IN which event, should not Anthony have taken some action against the Army Chief for alleging something without the guts to back it up in writing? The least he could have done was to reprimand the General for making oral allegations.

Anythony's response is pathetic.

"The members said they did not not question Antony's integrity "

When the CAG report came on 2G, the same line was used wrt Manmohan "We do not question the integrity of PM but..........". Which in effect meant they questioned both the integrity and efficiency of PM.

The line is pure parliamentary BS.

Of all organizations, military is the most staunch followers of "Chain of Commands".  Now put yourself in General V.K. Singh's position and go to your boss with a complaint and your boss tells you to do something about it.  You immediately realize that your boss does not want to do anything about it and is throwing ball back in your court.  What would you do?  Of course, what is your boss's hidden desire which is nothing, especially when you have been in your position for only six months.  Mr. Singh did not know at that time that his refusal to take bribe will hurt him in the long run, which it did and that is why he went to media- reminiscent of ancient soilders dawning "Kesaria".

Also, remember that as soon as the genetal went to media our DM thought the matter was serious.  Why it was not when it was first brought up?

Antony has committed delirection of duty beyond any reasonable doubt,he must resign as he has accepted that he choose not to pursue the bribery charges against a exGen and the fact the stuff biught was jacked up.

While we all debate the whole episode out here,do we ever spare a taught for the poor jawan in J and K whole wears substandard clothing and served rotten food and yet willing to die in the line of fire.No.

>>>> "But he (Gen. Singh) told me I do not not want to pursue it."

What is so surprising about it?

Every day, each of us, encounter issues that we choose to pursue or ignore. There might be instances at work, at home, with kids, amongst friends, that we might not exactly like. We may choose to take a stand on it, or ignore it.

As for this incident, the army chief may not want to pursue the case. He may believe that his role ended with informing the minister; he may believe that nothing shall come of it anyway, and he shall be wasting his time; he may feel that his time is better served by focusing on military matters, instead of wheeling dealings that go on, and such issues should be resolved by officials.

If he chooses to share, of if some court orders him to, we might know the reasons he didn't want to pursue the matter at that time. Bottom line, he told his superiors, who slept on the matter. As to why the minister slept over the issue, that's beyond the integrity scope of the jehadis to ask.

Who is boss here ? As per hierarchy, it is Antony. Why is he listening to SIngh ? So Singh does not want pursue and Antony obliges even though he does not understand the reason.

Mr Anthony, when VKSingh complained of the bribe offer you should have ordered an enquiry into that. If VK Singh refused to take action himself, you should have ordered an enquiry into that too. Or were you following your cabinet colleague Chidambaram's example of "treating the matter as closed"  or the PM's motto of keeping "things at an arm's distance" ?
