Essentially Manmohan Singh wants the EC to be just like him-inept, powerless and useless.

GoM on corruption -- Pranab Mukherjee, Kapil Sibal and Salman Khurshid

Kapil Sibal with the intent of censoring EC (as the worldwide web was an impossible task), and Salman to extract his pound of flesh from the previous battle with EC. I propose adding Beni Prasad to the list of the empowered ministers since he has taken on EC too. Let these guys teach the toothless EC a lesson!!!

Nice. After internet control, this is another act by this secular democratic party. They need to makesure they do it before 2014 elections so that we can go back to those glorious pre-Seshan days where you can have large scale election rigging and capturing of booth to win elections without any fear.

And CMs from all non-congress party are supposed to agree to NCTC proposed by this government,

All the concerned ministers said this is false. Seems people read the headline only.

What was the origin of the story?

Seems like it was a trial balloon by Congress leadership. When they felt the response was worse than they anticipated, they backed off.

But then you are blind to all corrput practises of secular parties...If you are asleep you can be awaken. If you pretend to be asleep (as you regularly do); there is no hope...

"Report to the GoM the “progress” made in the matter of giving “statutory shape” to the executive instructions of the Election Commission of India” hardly sounds  like imminent action. If you think that is enough for you to cry wolf, there is no hope.

Given the track record of this illiberal government led by the Congress only an idiot will wait for the action to be imminent,

As if we expected them to plead their guilt. What did A. Raja say when asked about 2G charges? What did Mannu himself say? What did PC say? Oh, and what did Sibal say? Zero.

Zero multiplied by zero is a BIG FAT zero, that's what!

The Congress lackeys and paid agents on this board notwithstanding.

" Express Exclusive: Secret note blows cover of govt move to shackle Election Commission

But the ‘Agenda Note for the 7th meeting of GoM [on 22.2.2012 at 1300 hrs]’ circulated to members of the group, clearly states the proposal to take the model code of conduct out of the EC’s purview.

Page 3 of the note says, under the head ‘Term of Reference (ii)(a): State Funding of Elections’, “...The Chairman was (also) of the view (at the September 30 meeting of the GoM) that ‘Code of Conduct’ was one of the biggest excuses to stall development projects, and thus agreed with the request of the Law Minister to flag this issue and its inclusion in the agenda papers. It was also suggested that the Legislative Department may also look into the aspects where executive instructions of the Election Commission of India were required to be given statutory shape. Accordingly, Secretary, Legislative Department, has been requested to make a presentation before the GoM on the progress made in the matter.”

Indira Gandhi was perhaps a little naive to bring in the emergency in one stroke, but this scheming Italian woman,Sonia Gandhi is bringing it in small doses like the way Napolean was injected small doses of arsenic to finish him.
