Bolt’s Work
Usain Bolt at 30 and Justin Gatlin at 34 will set Rio’s tracks on fire. In his third Olympics, Bolt is an epitome of durability in his event. For that, disciplined training with ‘periodisation’ plays a crucial role. Periodisation means how you load your pre-season training, then maintain training during competition and finally how you recover and reload yourself. Periodisation can be single or multiple and done taking a year’s competitive calendar into consideration. During the longer break in the pre-season training, something like three weeks of intense work is followed by an easy week. The intensity tapers off as one approaches competition. During it, training goes on at a lighter load for maintaining earlier gains. The break before embarking on the next competition is used for active recovery.
