D.L.Narayan,

>>  "four varnas were populated by people of the same ethnic stock"

This has to be taken with a grain of salt. By the way, regarding the word "Aryan", it is interesting that the word "Iran" means "home of the Aryans".

Shiv Sena vandalism is contemptible.

But what about the conduct of the media and the regular secular mob? Their concerted attempt to turn this into a story of Muslim victimization in "Hindu" India is an even bigger and and even more contemptible act of vandalism.

The seculars will not rest until they have killed and buried secularism.

"Finance Minister Arun Jaitley spelt out his intentions to bring about "civility" in tax regime, rationalise the subsidy system, maintain low taxes and boost infrastructure and housing to expand economy while providing more for social sector programmes."

This is what it means. Increase FISCAL DEFICITS  to 30% of GDP and grow the economy by the same% GDP because, (FISCAL deficit -TRADE DEFICIT)  = NET PRIVATE SAVINGS. NOte that FISCAL DEFICIT Is an infinite resource. It is also free. The GDP will grow by 30%. In a few years poverty will have vanished. In the meantime increase the health care budget by a factor of five EVERYWHERE.

@ WIAN - " The quality of food at other locations, including one served to kids in their constituencies can't be used as a justification for either low quality of food, or MPs taking umbrage to it."

I am not justifying anything. My limited point is that these MPs, used to freebies, expect to be served 5 star meals in a sarkari establishment. (The IRCTC serves lousy food to millions of passengers who travel in trains.) If they want better food go to a restaurant and pay for it.

As far as food served to kids is concerned, it is well known that a part of the resources meant for the kids ends up with crooked politicians and bureaucrats. Have we ever seen politicians agitate for an improvement of the quality of food served to these kids?

The sense of entitlement and the tendency to take law into their hands by arrogant politicians upsets me no end, does not matter which party they belong to. They forget that they are servants, not masters.

Evolution seems to have chosen the lifespan of the human species to be a factor of the age of the young of the human specie, say, three times. Nature is only interested in the survival of the species, not individuals. It is more economical to produce healthy young rather than healthy old. For example salmon get old rapidly and die in large numbers after they spawn. This is for a specie that is almost hard wired with abilities required for survival, no teaching being involved. The big cats need to be taught to hunt. The humans need lots of time to learn.

It is pointless to live unnecessarily long.

Ram Lala,

>> "so where are the Muslim Jon Stewarts who go on TV and criticize Muslim double standards and Muslim atrocities".

Good point! At this time they are mostly on websites and blogs. A faithful copy of Jon Stewart's satirical TV program "The Daily Show" was very popular on Egyptian televsion, but President Sisi got it cancelled. Hindus do have Jon Stewarts, but you won't find even one Jon Stewart among Hindutvawadi geese. You will however find many hate merchants like yourself among them.

This Shiv Sena thug needs a boot up his rear end for abusing the staff, Muslim, Hindu or Hungarian.

Meanwhile, in the lands of Islam, here is how Ramzan is being observed:

"An Iranian judge sentenced a Christian man to have his lips burnt with a cigarette for eating during the day in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The barbaric punishment was carried out in public in a square in the city of Kermanshah.

Five other Muslim men were also flogged in public with 70 lashes for not fasting during Ramadan, the city's deputy governor Ali Ashraf Karami said.

While it is true that Egypt had paid a heavy price while fighting for the Palestinian cause, there is no denying the fact that it has also abandoned the cause in 1979 when it became a client state of the US.

During the brief presidency of Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas received a lot of support, both political and financial. When Morsi was deposed, Hamas was severely impacted and the general instability in the region made things worse. A beleaguered Hamas was forced to patch up with arch rival Fatah. However, Israel rejected the Fatah-Hamas accord because the Hamas had refused to accept Israel's right to exist.

In order to survive, Hamas then embarked on a strategy of provoking Israel and playing victim after the brutal retaliation that was sure to follow. Israel however does not buckle, even under extreme pressure. It is this strength that has enabled it to survive all these years in an extremely hostile environment.

Peace will return to Palestine after Israel wipes out the Hamas from its stronghold in Gaza. Hopefully, the Palestinian Authority and the State of Israel will reach a peace accord and the Arabs of Palestinians will benefit from peace and from being a part of the richest economy in the region (apart from the Oil rich Gulf sheikhdoms).

The Arabs and the Jews must put the acrimony of the past behind them and learn to co-exist to ensure a peaceful future for the generations to come.

The (dis)honourable MPs were upset at the quality of the subsidised meal served to them. Are they aware of the quality of food served to children in the schools and social welfare hostels located in their constituencies?

One cannot help but get disgusted

It is prefectly okay to feel disgusted. However, the quality of food at other locations, including one served to kids in their constituencies can't be used as a justification for either low quality of food, or MPs taking umbrage to it.

Lot of Indians don't have access to toilets. Is that a justification to allow the toilets in Maharashtra Sadan (or other places) to be in a filthy state? There is lot of corruption. Is it okay to allow a little theft or a small bribe by a low level govt official?

Oh, and there is lot of crime in the country, including against children. Then why feel disgusted over a little bullying incident against an adult?

It was a bullying incident, and despite all the hungama, a relatively small one. Had the victim been a Hindu, it would never have made any news at all. Watching the video, it doesn't seem at all, that he knew that the victim was a Muslim, or that he was observing a fast. Maybe he was told this. It's difficult to decipher what was being said in all the noise and shouting. However, at no point did I feel that he was trying to insult the religious feelings of the guy.

Sure. Turn the heat on SS, and by association BJP. But don't fall into the trap of giving a communal color to a perfectly "secular" issue. I think many of the "Sanghis" on this forum are feeling the need to display their secular credentials, and are going over the top.

>>  "The MP's version is that he was protesting the quality of the food and was unaware of the religion of the staff into whose mouth he tried to stuff the chapati.''

Shoving chapati down the mouth of a Hindu worker would also be criminal. Our pooh-bahs think it is okay to slap or shove or shout at or push chapatis down the throats of those they consider to be their "inferiors". We have all seen videos of Rajnath Singh slapping his security commando last year. Are servants and aides not entitled to any dignity?

" Sick" (Post 1)

In Telangana state, there are eminent sportspersons like Sindhu, Gopichand and VVS Laxman. They won't do because their parents are of Andhra origin even though they have lived in Hyderabad all their lives.

Students in Telangana are not eligible for tuition fee subsidies or even seats in Medical/Engineering if their families have not been living in Telangana in 1956.

Yes, Sania Mirza is a bone fide celebrity; she has brought laurels to the country, is glamorous and will be an excellent brand ambassador.

However, Sania Mirza was born in Mumbai, her father played cricket for Mumbai. Had she not been a celebrity, she would have been treated as an "outsider" ineligible for a seat in the institutions there or for a government job. How can Telangana claim her as its own while it treats kids who spent all their lives in Hyderabad as "outsiders" and seeks to deprive them of higher education and jobs in city where they have spent all their lives? Now, that is sick.

The stupid mo#$#$uckers in the Indian bureaucracy are again moralizing in the UN -- Modi is letting these bureaucrat morons run the show, and this is not to his credit.

But then again, who really gives a sh*t about the worthless UN HR resolution given that the UN itself is a toothless, worthless organization that needs to die out and expunged from the face of this planet.

What possibly may happen is, Maharashtra Sadan (and many such Hindu eateries) will decide that hiring Muslims could mean trouble.  They may not give reason but decide such thing.  Who is helping or hurting who?

"The Arab-Israeli war is not a racial conflict. It is about land." CAIR smoke-blower

It is about religion - specifically, about the inability of Muslims to live peacefully with other religions, whether it is in the Islamic Republic of Krapistan or the People's Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (PISS).

"Jon Stewart, a Jew, has in fact been a consistent critic of American double standards and Israeli excesses. He puts our Hindutvawadi geese to shame!" CAIR pracharak

So where are the Muslim Jon Stewarts who go on TV and criticize Muslim double standards and Muslim atrocities instead of providing cover for extremists like CAIR does by screaming Islamophobia anytime anyone criticizes Muslims or Islam?

Or are you Muslim moderates a bunch of scared geese who don't dare to stick your necks out because you might be beheaded by the many misunderstanders of Islam?

"At least 82 people were killed on Wednesday in two bombings in the northern Nigerian city of Kaduna targeting an opposition leader and a moderate Muslim cleric."

If Prarthana writes one article in response to the killing of four Muslim children by Israelis, how many articles will she write in response to this deliberate murder of 82 people by Muslim extremists?

Answer: zero.

Because for our leftwing journalists, murders committed by Muslims don't matter.

@ The Contrarian - "Can some one enlighten ?"

Can't enlighten but can offer an opinion or two.

1. The muted reaction from the BJP could be due to the forthcoming elections in Maharashtra. Support of the SS is crucial there. When a BJP MP crossed the line in the Lok Sabha, the party was quick to make him apologise.

2. It is possible that Vichare was unaware that it was Ramzan and that he was functionally illiterate and hence did not read the name of the IRCTC supervisor. He was just being his usual roguish self and his behaviour had no religious overtones.

3. Was the whole episode pre-planned? What was a TV crew doing in the dining hall of the Maharashtra Sadan?

4. The (dis)honourable MPs were upset at the quality of the subsidised meal served to them. Are they aware of the quality of food served to children in the schools and social welfare hostels located in their constituencies?
