Who in his right mind will climb a fence to take a picture at a tiger's enclosure? I will hardly blame the authorities unless the fence collapsed. They you might make the case that the fence might not have been strong enough to take the load of people leaning against it. If the fence didn't collapse, then it's likely that this man climbed up so high on the fence that he overbalanced and fell on to the other side.

One might fault the design for safety and apportion part of the blame to the zoo authorities but there's no protection against stupidity and poor judgment of an individual.

Mr Maheshwar Peri has brought a very pertinent issue that should be a big concern for all Indian parents. Eduction has truly become a big business in India with no responsibilities fixed on any one. The way things are moving, the money spend on education gives returns only to a very small minority. The rest of the Indian parents practically do a wasteful expenditure by spending heavily which would be of no use for their children. Mr Peri has brought out the financial implications for every one to see, though it might appear initially as a bit exaggerated. The money goes in to the pockets of the so called management members of the the various educational institutions in a clandestine manner. Some of them keep constructing and facelifting their campuses while pocketing the commissions while others keep diverting the excess funds in many other ways. This situation has happened when the governmental authorities joined hands with them and allowed them to extract unjustifiable fees. This was not the situation before the 1990's! The heavy fees has not actually improved any thing in education except perhaps the look of the buildings!

75% of the fresh engineers and the MBA are unemployed evern after spending millions as fees. Perhaps a fraction of the money spend, if invested in the banks would have fetched life time returns, as Mr Peri has suggested! Regrettably, the Indian parents have lost their voices and responses due to their own selfishness! I had written some aspects of this earlier in some blogs:

School education: An open suggestion to the government!

Education service through societies: A non profit service with huge profit potentials for some!

School education system of India: Systematic undermining of the constitution!

Dividing India through education!

Education by religious non profit organizations for money and power!

It is time that we think about this more seriously!

Dear Emma, and all those who hail you

1. What exactly do you mean by gender equality? Genders are there for a reason - they are not meant to be equal; they are meant to complement each other. Unless you get this into your head, your commentary will always be prejudiced and lopsided.

2. Stop speaking to men with that subtle tone of derision, and framing expectations of them. Enough; this nonsense is there everywhere. Speak to women instead and ask them to reflect. Do not talk about HeForShe unless you can, on equal terms and with as much conviction, talk about SheForHe too.

3. Why is there never a talk about SheForShe? O, but even if women exploit women, it's still the fault of men, right?

4. In the context of equality and fairness, please explain alimony to me. Please explain why child custody rests by default with women. Please explain why a woman, when she walks out with children when the guy loses his job, is considered bold and independent, while a man, if and when he does so too, is considered a cheat.

5. The number of men who commit suicide due to family problems is more than three times that of women. But you will still talk about HeForShe, right?

6. Your cry for equality is a farce. What you really want is absolute power.

7. I'm sure UN will attract more funding with such campaigns. It will not surprise me if the next step is to nominate Feminism for some Nobel prize.

Modi fought 2014 on basis of development and won. The fringe Right Wing in BJP misunderstood that victory as victory for Political Hindutva. This fringe was allowed a free run in a not so important bye-election. This fringe is rejected by the people. This means (just as in Gujarat), the fringe elements will now be part of political history of BJP.

Modi can now assert rightfully, that the only thing taht matters to teh youth of India is development which will lead to job creation. Everything else will fail (be it secularism or communalism) as Money -the greatest equaliser- breaks down all false walls of caste, class, gender & religion.

The present PM, Modi, has ALREADY assumed that males have no need for education.

Hence, his mission in the new educational plans, is to educate feminists alone.

The fact, of course, is that males are expected to work and bring money home, whether they study, or whether they dont.

Which side are you, Mr Rajnath Singh?: An open letter to the Union Home Minister

By Shamsul Islam

Rajnath Singhji,

While talking to The Indian Express (New Delhi, August 24, 1914) you described yourself as a “Swayamsewak of the RSS”. As the Home Minister of the country you must have taken oath to uphold the Indian Constitution which is based on the principles of democracy, secularism, federalism, socialism and justice. However, there is going to be a serious conflict of interests between the above-mentioned fundamental principles of the Indian polity and your membership of the RSS. As a member of the RSS you must be well aware that the RSS hates and denigrates all the above-mentioned fundamental principles of democratic-secular India. I am quoting below directly from the RSS documents to show you how the RSS denigrates the National Flag, Democracy, Federalism, Secular State, Social Equality. As a senior Swayamsewak you must be aware of the fact that the first Home Minister of the country, Sardar Patel, held the RSS responsible for creating a situation wherein Gandhiji was killed. Democratic-Secular India is not compatible with the world-view of the RSS. Kindly respond to the following critical issues so that we, the citizens of India, come to know which side of the divide you stand.

Communal Riots in Uttar Pradesh

After the 1990s, communal incidents in India have spread to rural areas, and they occur on a smaller scale, but with much larger frequency. In this strategy, the making of a communal consciousness requires a string of communal moments that produce and reproduce communal polarisation directly and indirectly. The Bharatiya Janata Party, backed by the cadres of the Sangh Parivar, holds an advantage in this communal game in Uttar Pradesh, while the other parties are forced to play it for fear of further losing their voter base. Post-election communal clashes in UP have occurred around constituencies going for assembly by-polls soon. This trend is only going to harden by the time the assembly elections take place in 2017.
