If Fadnavis becomes CM, then Gadkari may be afraid of an enquiry on the irrigation scam where he is also alleged to have benefitted.

Mr. Fadnavis is said to be a simple and upright man so Gadkari may not be able to pull the string. That is also why he is preferring the corrupted NCP outside support to Sena.

I am at a loss when I read comments from BJP supporters assuming that BJP is a clean party. Where did their funds for the elections come from?

Mr. Modi should firmly back Fadnavis who is more honest and upright than the entire Gadkari camp put together

George >> Hindu christian or hindu sikh marriage has no problem. But if one of the couple is muslim, the other has to submit to Islam.

Absolute SPOT ON.. this also has to do with fact that some of the principal nations of Islam (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan) are theocratic nazist states where non muslims get less rights than animals. We will never hear CAIR (funded by KSA/taliban) spokesperson here talk about that.. When was last time we heard of a Hindu man marrying Muslim Woman in Pakistan and both continuing to practice their faiths without fear?

Akash (#7),

> "The SS is the natural ally of the BJP and the two in combination would form a stable government since their interests coincide"

>> Parties like SS, SP, BSP, NCP are all cockroaches and must be destroyed. BJP has a very good chance now to weaken the SS significantly. And to that end, BJP should take outside support from NCP.

The BJP is forming a minority government with about 135 seats (123 +12 independents/others). It will have to prove its majority on the floor of the house. The only way the BJP can lose is if the Consters, NCP and SS all vote NO. I would like to see how the Shiv Sena justifies voting together with these succular parties to dislodge a fellow communal govt. Apart from that, if this does happen, the BJP will retaliate by withdrawing its support in the BMC. Is the Sena ready for that?

Effectively the Shiv Sena is out on a limb and will have to come cap in hand to the BJP to be taken in to govt.

Better the devil you know than the one you don't. The BJP can keep the SS under control. The only lever the BJP has over the NCP is the threat pf criminal investigations. If it goes slow for fear of losing NCP support, the govt will stand discredited. If it goes full steam ahead then it is likely to risk having its support removed and places the SS in a stronger bargaining position. Right now the BJP has the SS by the short and curlies and can squeeze whenever they like. Wait for them to come and go about eating into the SS' support base overthe next five years. A time will come when the SS is reduced to an also ran like its cousin the MNS.

Saif Ali Khan represents the precise problem of CONG ruled INdia of 60 years, worshipping of Feudal frauds as icons of secularism. Buddhadev Nandi >> Unfortunately, India has the highest number of child labours of the world.

In any social metric, India stands at first or second because we have the second biggest population on this planet. China had equally big child labour problem pre Mao but 1 child policy plus massive industrialization has eliminated Child labour. 100 years back child labour was widespread in US textile industry and today it is gone.

Industrialization and Mechanization through massive expansion of power plus schemes like Nutritious noon meal schemes plus encouraging people to have less children through incentives will eliminate child labour but merely enacting laws will never help, see what happened to RTE.

Whatever may be the intentions behind the Nobel Prize it is an undeniable fact that Child Labour (especially in industries/trades where working conditions are extremely bad) is something that must be stamped out and individuals /groups irrespective of their political affliation who work on this must be appreciated.

Swami Agnivesh's poltiical affliations are stinking but his work on bonded labour needs some appreciation. So with this new Nobel Laureate.

But one fact which our HYPOCRITICAL WESTERN MEDIA Hides is - At some point of time Child labour was fairly widespread in UK/Europe/USA as well.. One can safely say that till World Wars, the economies of USA and Europe were driven by non adults working on various industries paid much less than adults. Yes all that is 100 years ago but that does not make it non existent.

The only real solution for Child Labour is industrialization, mechanization and urbanization that makes it uneconomical and it is happening already across everywhere in India, hope it is speeded up by NAMO government which has rightly given priority to power generation (which is critical for mechanization of industries/eliminatino of exhausting physical labour in some trades)

One, after Lok Sabha election, Amit Shah said that BJP will accept any party's support if it wants to extend its support.

Two, If NCP attacked BJP as the party of 'Half Pants', communal etc., BJP's attack on NCP was not much milder.  If NCP is willing to forgive and forget, BJP also should do the same.

Three, It is one thing to attack opposition leaders as corrupt, it is much more difficult to convict them with solid proof.  We saw that with Kejriwal and Sheila Dikshit.

Four, you can negotiate with only reasonable people. Even with moderate demand of 130-135 seats SS did not budge.  Its (and especially Uddhav's) attitude is like, 'I will die but I will make you a widow'.  This can be seen even right now from what is coming out from SS/Uddhav/Samna.  Uddhav's language is like a school bully, very immature.. "Modi To Kya, Us Ka Baap Bhi Nahi..."  There is no mature politician left in SS to placate Uddhav.

Pakistan has a lot of terrorists but even if their number is one lakh, what percentage is that of a population of 184 million. And to try to connect terrorism with U.K.'s crime statistics is a trick that only the two of you would try to play! Only 50 years ago the preponderence of blacks in U.S. prison populations was repeatedly touted by white racists as proof of the inferiority or sociopathy of blacks, until they were silenced by excellent sociological research and, now, by the fact that Blacks are professors in Ivy League universities, lawyers, judges, businessman governors and even a President. The Brits and the Americans do not get hysterical about these statistics. Only communalist guttersnipes keep writing post after post as if they are making some great point! You guys even tried to say that Muslims do not do any good deeds. When I posted some dramatic examples showing the opposite, both of you disappeared like gutter rats.

BJP should put SS in its place by going ahead with the NCP offer for now. A humbled and chastised SS will soon crawl back to BJP for whatever crumbs Amit Shah will throw at it. - Non Fanatic (#1)

That is a short sighted view. No party offering outside support can be relied upon. Though the NCP says its offer of support is UNCONDITIONAL, There is no such thing as a free lunch. Sooner or later the BJP will be asked to pay the price and if it balks, the NCP will withdraw support and the government will fall.

The SS is the natural ally of the BJP and the two in combination would form a stable government since their interests coincide. The BJP must treat the SS fairly (as it has promised, but the alliance needs to reflect the ground realities. The seat share is of the order of 2:1 and the vote share 3:2. For the SS to claim parity on the basis of a 1995 agreement is absurd. Ministries should be allotted 2:1 on the basis of legislature strength. For the next election, each party should fight the seats it has won. For the balance, whichever party fared better should be allowed to contest. That should be a fair solution, but it is likely that the SS will cut its nose to spite its face.

If the SS chooses to sulk and let the BJP form a minority government, they will be the losers. It would be interesting to see the SS and the Congress vote together on any issue.

Shiv Sena (SS) is feeling the heat with the NCP offer to BJP.  It is scared and paranoid now that it will be reduced to a non-entity if BJP takes the NCP offer.

"Swamy has become a nutcase."

No. He has always been one. He turned maveric ever since he led the one-man party - Janata Party. He is useful for contract jobs but has never been a team person, much like Jethmalani. In this case though, his statement is true albeit a politically incorrect one.

What's hurting the ego of Uddhav is that the results have vindicated BJP's decision to part ways with SS. BJP should be wary of allying with one with such a bloated ego.

This entire article is just a list of baseless assertions! It has no logical or factual content. It reminds me of the Delhi media, assorted jholawalllas and candle light wallas saying 'a strong Pakistan is in India's best interest'. This statement is repeated by all and sundry and becomes gospel but nobody in our intellectual circle has the courage to examine it and asses whether it makes any sense or not.

Here is a man who saved children from exploitation without any help from the Indian government, and with no significant recognition by the state or the media or his own people. And, we, instead of feeling jubiliant for his winning the Nobel Prize and equally feeling embarrased for not recognizing his works even before a distant Norwegian committee, write-up an article which questions his genuinity and motive. Well done, Outlook! You should really be proud of your journalistic capabilities.

There are various indirect ways to figure out the character/religion of a person, without really looking under!! Even the looks tell.

It is easy. Similar to what one would conclude after reading a few of your posts here: That you are a shallow secular with a laughable conceit who has pretensions to be intelligent but her intellectual depth is so shallow that it does not go beyond a spell check.

To be fair, you do provide some intermittent comic relief though!

What Mumbai ? Real terror story is in Bengal.  In Burdwan Today a local Islamist leader, in a big rally in Burdwan town, presumably called for 'peace' , infront of largely a allah0-akbar crowd, threatened the local police and warned TMC government. As per reports in Calcutta daily anandabazar, Mr Siddikulllah , urged all Madrassas to resist if police come to search. He said Madrassas should 'search the police' when they come !  He urged the muslims to donate money to fund the lawers and defense of the two muslim women and other bomb-makers in custody.  He threatened that if local police co-operated with central agencies then they would throw the TMC government out.

It Is said ants develop wings when there end times near. Indian state is under threat in Bengal and the brazen show of force at a rally in Burdwan today should be an eye-opener.

Is the Congress aided and abetted by the media going to persist with this lie that outside support = alliance. If the NCP chooses to vote for or abstains from voting against the government in a floor test, that is their business. Was the minority Congress government in ALLIANCE with the AAP when they supported Kejriwal?

UPA-I survived on outside support from the Left. Were they ALLIES. When the Left withdrew their support the Cons cobbled a majority by buying votes.
